FAQ

Where is RiNo Dental located?

RiNo Dental is conveniently located in the RiNo (River North) Arts District of Denver at 3258 Larimer St., Suite 300, Denver, CO 80205. We offer free parking, online scheduling, and a modern, comfortable office designed to make your visit as stress free as possible.

Are you accepting new patients?

Yes! We welcome new patients of all ages. Whether you're looking for a routine cleaning, cosmetic dentistry, emergency care, or a second opinion, we'd love to meet you.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Please complete your new patient paperwork before your visit. If you have recent X-rays from another dental office, have them sent to us before your appointment. Other than that, we'll take care of the rest!

Do you offer same day appointments?

Whenever possible, yes. We reserve time in our schedule for dental emergencies and urgent dental needs. Please note that we do not provide emergency care after hours or on weekends.

How often should I visit the dentist?

Most patients benefit from routine exams and cleanings every six months. Patients with periodontal disease may require periodontal maintenance every three to four months.

Insurance & Payment

Do you accept dental insurance?

Yes! We accept most PPO dental insurance plans and are in network with many major insurance providers. If you're unsure about your coverage, give us a call and we'd be happy to help verify your benefits.

What if I don't have dental insurance?

No problem! We offer our affordable Neighborhood Membership Plan, which provides preventive care and discounts on additional treatment without the restrictions of traditional insurance.

Will you verify my insurance benefits?

Absolutely. As a courtesy, our team verifies your dental insurance benefits and provides an estimate before treatment whenever possible. However, dental insurance companies make the final determination on coverage and payment, so estimates are never a guarantee of benefits.

We strongly encourage you to familiarize yourself with your specific plan, including deductibles, annual maximums, frequency limitations, waiting periods, exclusions, and any other benefit restrictions. While we do our best to verify your coverage, every insurance plan is different, and it's not possible for us to be experts on every policy. Ultimately, any services not covered by your insurance remain your financial responsibility.

Why is my insurance estimate different than what I owe?

Dental insurance estimates are based on information provided by your insurance company before treatment. Your final responsibility depends on how your insurance processes the claim, including deductibles, annual maximums, waiting periods, frequency limitations, and plan exclusions.

What does it mean if a dentist is in network or out of network?

An in-network dentist has a contract with your insurance company and agrees to their negotiated fees, which may reduce your out of pocket costs depending on your plan.

An out-of-network dentist does not have that contract. Your insurance may still provide benefits, but you may pay a larger portion of the cost.

Keep in mind that whether a dentist is in or out of network, your out of pocket costs are determined by your specific insurance plan and benefits.

Do you offer financing?

Yes! We offer flexible payment options through Cherry, including interest free financing for qualified patients.

Preventive Dentistry

What happens during a routine dental cleaning?

Your visit typically includes a comprehensive exam, digital X-rays if needed, an oral cancer screening, a professional cleaning, polishing, and personalized recommendations to help keep your smile healthy.

Do I need X-rays every visit?

Not always. X-rays are recommended based on your dental needs, risk factors, symptoms, and current clinical findings. We follow ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles to minimize radiation exposure while ensuring an accurate diagnosis.

To establish care as a new patient, we require current diagnostic records, including bitewing X-rays, any necessary periapical images, and either a panoramic X-ray or a full mouth series (FMX). If you have recent images from your previous dental office, you're welcome to have them forwarded to us before your appointment. If they are unavailable or do not meet our diagnostic needs, we will take new X-rays during your visit.

Please note that if your dental insurance does not cover new X-rays because you've reached your plan's frequency limitation or for any other reason, you will be responsible for the cost of those images.

What is periodontal disease?

Periodontal disease, commonly called gum disease, is an infection of the gums and supporting bone caused by bacteria. Left untreated, it can lead to bone loss, loose teeth, and eventually tooth loss.

If you've been diagnosed with periodontal disease, a routine preventive cleaning is no longer considered appropriate. Instead, we'll recommend the treatment needed to properly manage your gum health.

What's the difference between a regular cleaning and periodontal maintenance?

A routine cleaning is for patients with healthy gums. Periodontal maintenance is performed after treatment for periodontal disease to help prevent the disease from returning by cleaning below the gumline and monitoring your periodontal health.

Coverage for periodontal maintenance varies by insurance plan. Some plans cover it at 100%, while others apply a deductible or coinsurance, so we recommend reviewing your specific benefits.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Do you offer professional teeth whitening?

Yes! We offer both KöR Whitening and Philips Zoom Whitening to safely brighten your smile.

Is professional whitening better than over the counter products?

Professional whitening uses stronger, clinically tested whitening agents while protecting your gums and reducing sensitivity. Results are generally faster, more predictable, and longer lasting.

Do you offer veneers?

Yes. We provide custom porcelain veneers to improve the appearance of chipped, stained, worn, uneven, or misshapen teeth while creating a natural-looking smile. We partner with a local dental laboratory to fabricate hand-painted, custom-shaded veneers that are designed to complement your facial features, smile, and natural tooth color for beautiful, lifelike results.

Can cosmetic dentistry fix gaps between my teeth?

Depending on your goals, gaps may be corrected with Invisalign, veneers, or cosmetic bonding. During your consultation, we'll recommend the most conservative treatment for your smile.

Invisalign

Do you offer Invisalign?

Yes! Invisalign is an excellent option for many teens and adults looking to straighten their teeth without traditional braces.

How long does Invisalign take?

Treatment varies by patient, but most Invisalign cases are completed within 6 to 18 months.

Is Invisalign painful?

Most patients experience mild pressure for a few days after switching to a new aligner. This is normal and means your teeth are moving as planned.

Dental Implants

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are permanent tooth replacements that replace both the root and crown of a missing tooth. They look, feel, and function like natural teeth.

Do you do implants at RiNo Dental?

Yes! We place many single tooth dental implants right here in our office. More complex cases may be referred to a trusted specialist.

How long do dental implants last?

With proper care and regular dental visits, dental implants can last decades and often a lifetime.

Emergency Dentistry

What is considered a dental emergency?

Dental emergencies include severe tooth pain, swelling, infection, broken teeth, knocked out teeth, dental trauma, lost crowns, or uncontrolled bleeding.

Can I be seen the same day for a dental emergency?

We do our best to accommodate emergency patients the same day whenever possible. We do not provide emergency care after hours.

What should I do if I knock out a tooth?

Keep the tooth moist, avoid touching the root, and call our office immediately. Quick treatment greatly improves the chances of saving the tooth.

Restorative Dentistry

Do you perform crowns?

Yes. Dental crowns restore teeth that are cracked, weakened, heavily filled, or have undergone root canal treatment.

How long do crowns last?

Most crowns last 10 to 15 years or longer with excellent oral hygiene and regular dental care.

What is a dental filling?

A filling restores a tooth damaged by decay by removing the cavity and replacing it with a durable, tooth-colored material.

Tooth Extractions

Do you perform tooth extractions?

Yes. We perform many routine extractions in our office. More complex or impacted wisdom teeth may be referred to a trusted oral surgeon.

How long does it take to recover after an extraction?

Most patients feel significantly better within a few days, although complete healing of the area takes several weeks.

Dental Anxiety

I'm afraid of the dentist. Can you help?

Absolutely! Many of our patients experience dental anxiety. Our team is known for providing gentle, judgment free care while explaining every step of treatment so you always feel comfortable and in control. We also offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and Halcion for qualifying patients to help make treatment more comfortable.

I've avoided the dentist for years. Will I be judged?

Never. Our goal is to help you improve your oral health, not make you feel guilty. No matter how long it's been since your last visit, you'll be treated with kindness, respect, and compassion.

New Patients

Do I need to transfer my dental records?

We encourage you to request your previous dental records before your first appointment whenever possible. Having your records helps us better understand your dental history and may prevent unnecessary imaging.

How long is a new patient appointment?

Most comprehensive new patient visits take approximately 60 minutes.

What happens during my first visit?

Your first appointment typically includes digital X-rays (if needed), a comprehensive examination, an oral cancer screening, a periodontal evaluation, and a discussion of any treatment recommendations. If you're due for a routine preventive cleaning and enough time is available, we'll often complete it during the same visit. If peridontal or gingival therpay is needed, we'll discuss the next steps with you.

Technology

Do you use digital X-rays?

Yes! Digital X-rays produce significantly less radiation than traditional film while providing high-quality diagnostic images.

Do you use intraoral scanners?

Yes! Our digital scanning technology creates highly accurate impressions without the discomfort of traditional impression material for many procedures.

Do you use an oral cancer screening tool?

Yes. We offer VELscope oral cancer screenings to help detect abnormal tissue that may not be visible during a traditional exam. The screening is $50 and covers three years of annual screenings.
