MAKING DENTISTRY AFFORDABLE

So you want the best for your smile, that’s obvious. But at the same time, you don’t want to break the bank getting it. Fortunately, our team works to make our high-quality services as affordable as possible -- and patients who are covered by dental insurance can benefit from even more savings.

The trick to getting the most out of your investment in your smile is understanding just how dental insurance works, and we know that can be kind of a pain. But we’re here to make it easier! Keep reading to learn more about how we handle dental insurance at our office, and how we can help you make the most out of your plan.

HOW DENTAL INSURANCE WORKS

Most dental insurance plans work like this: you (or your employer, if you’re lucky) pay upfront for coverage on services you can receive throughout the year. In exchange for a monthly premium which usually hovers around $50 for an individual and $150 for a family, you may be able to receive up to $1,500 of care annually once you have met your deductible.

Most plans are set on a calendar year and will not roll over from one period to the next. Our team of experts can help you use your benefits strategically to really stretch your coverage -- for the good of your smile AND your wallet.

While the details may vary a bit based on decisions made at the time of enrollment, coverage usually looks like this:

  • Preventive care is 100% covered: Checkups and cleanings, X-rays, and maybe dental sealants and fluoride treatments for children
  • Minor restorative care is covered between 70% and 80%: Fillings, extractions, and more
  • More major restorative care is covered by 50%: Dental crowns, dentures, bridges, and other services

DENTAL INSURANCE VS. MEDICAL INSURANCE

Dental insurance does not work quite the same as medical insurance. Unlike what you use at the doctor’s office to pay for care when you are already sick, dental coverage focuses more on prevention. After all, it’s always easier to stop a problem from happening than it is to fix one after the fact! You are paying for twice-annual checkups and cleanings each month, and you can cash in on these visits FOR FREE every six months. An annual set of X-rays is also usually covered by dental insurance.
