Tooth Extractions in Denver
Sometimes a tooth cannot be saved due to extensive decay, severe infection, advanced periodontal disease, trauma, or a fracture below the gumline. When this happens, a tooth extraction may be the healthiest option to relieve pain, eliminate infection, and protect your overall oral health.
At RiNo Dental, we always strive to save natural teeth whenever possible. If an extraction is necessary, we'll explain your options, ensure you're comfortable throughout the procedure, and help you plan for the next steps in restoring your smile.
When Is a Tooth Extraction Necessary?
A tooth extraction may be recommended if you have:
-
Severe tooth decay that cannot be restored
-
Advanced periodontal (gum) disease
-
A fractured tooth that cannot be repaired
-
A dental abscess or severe infection
-
Trauma that has damaged the tooth beyond repair
-
Overcrowding before orthodontic treatment
-
A retained baby tooth preventing permanent tooth eruption
Before recommending an extraction, we'll perform a comprehensive examination and take any necessary digital X-rays to determine the healthiest treatment option.
What Happens During a Tooth Extraction?
For teeth that can be safely removed in our office, we'll numb the area with local anesthesia to ensure you're comfortable throughout the procedure.
Once the tooth is carefully removed, we'll provide detailed post-operative instructions to help minimize discomfort and promote proper healing. Most patients can return to their normal routine within a day or two while the extraction site continues to heal over the following weeks.
Do You Remove Wisdom Teeth?
We perform simple tooth extractions for teeth that can be safely removed in our office.
However, many wisdom teeth and certain other teeth require a more advanced surgical approach. If your tooth is impacted, has complex root anatomy, is located near important nerves or sinus structures, or requires advanced surgical removal, we'll refer you to one of our trusted oral and maxillofacial surgeons. If the extraction does not involve the previously mentioned, we can remove them here!
We work closely with several outstanding specialists throughout the Denver area and will coordinate your care every step of the way to ensure you receive the treatment that's safest and most appropriate for your individual situation.
Replacing a Missing Tooth After an Extraction
Removing a tooth is only the first step. Replacing a missing tooth can help maintain your bite, preserve your smile, and reduce the risk of neighboring teeth shifting into the empty space.
Depending on your needs, we may recommend:
-
Dental implants
-
Dental bridges
-
Partial dentures
We'll review the advantages of each option and help you decide which solution best fits your oral health, lifestyle, and budget.
What Is Recovery Like?
Most simple extractions heal uneventfully with proper aftercare.
Following your extraction, we'll provide instructions on managing discomfort, protecting the blood clot, eating during recovery, and keeping the area clean. We'll also let you know what to expect during healing and when to contact our office if you have questions or concerns.
Comfortable, Compassionate Tooth Extractions
Whether your tooth can be removed in our office or requires treatment by one of our trusted oral surgeons, our priority is making sure you receive the right care at the right time. We'll guide you through the entire process, answer your questions, and help you restore your oral health with a treatment plan designed specifically for you.
