How Long Will Your Invisalign Treatment Take?

The treatment time for Invisalign varies from person to person depending on several factors, but the average is 12 months. This compares to an average of 24 months for traditional braces. Here are some of the determining factors:

  • Compliance – The more you can follow the guideline of wearing your trays at least 22 hours per day, the more likely you are to finish treatment on time. This gives you two hours a day to remove them for meals, brushing and flossing, and important events like job interviews or photographs.
  • Severity – In general, the more severe your alignment issues are, the longer your treatment time will be. And while Invisalign works beautifully for most people with mild to moderate bite issues, in particularly severe cases we may recommend braces to make sure you get the best results.
  • Age – As time goes on, the bone in your jaws becomes harder and more dense, so it can take a little longer to move the teeth. This is why treatment often takes longer for adults than for teens.

How Many Sets of Aligner Trays Will You Need?

The average number of aligner sets that our patients need is 20-30. Simple cases that only require minimal movement can be done with just 10-20 sets, while very complex cases might require 40-50.

Ultimately, as a dentist in LoDo, we always have your best interests at heart and will recommend the best course of treatment for your needs. We only succeed when you love your smile!
